From Work Experience to Employment: Leo Webster’s Journey with Micronclean Blog08.08.2024

In today's job market in Skegness, hands-on experience and practical skills are often key to securing employment. For Leo Webster, this journey began in the Class 4 Cleanroom at the Roman Bank site in Skegness. His story is a testament to the power of perseverance, hard work, and the support of a dedicated team.

On the 20th of March 2023, Leo, at the time a student of Eresby SEND School, embarked on a week-long work experience placement at Micronclean. This opportunity allowed Leo to develop a range of essential skills that would prove invaluable in his future career. Reflecting on this period, Katy Dennis, Careers Lead at Eresby SEND School, remarked, "Under a supportive team, Leo developed a range of essential skills and came away with a goal to eventually work at Micronclean."

Leo's initial placement not only equipped him with practical knowledge but also ignited a passion and ambition to join Micronclean as a permanent team member. Fast forward to January 2024, and Leo's aspiration took a significant step forward when he began an extended work placement, dedicating one day per week to hone his skills further. This extended placement was crucial in helping Leo adapt to his new role.

April 2024 marked a significant milestone in Leo's journey. His goal of working at Micronclean became a reality when he secured part-time employment. This achievement was a proud moment, not only for Leo but also for everyone who supported him along the way. Katy Dennis shared the joy of this accomplishment, noting, "It is incredibly rewarding to watch a student achieve employment and put into practice the skills they have been developing throughout their educational journey."

Scott Eley, SEND Employment Lead at Lincolnshire County Council, commented, “I have been absolutely delighted that Eresby has been able to forge a growing relationship with Micronclean and that Leo was one of the first students on the SEND Employment Project to gain work experience. It has been incredibly satisfying to see Leo's growth in confidence as he masters tasks in the workplace. Leo was one of the winners at our recent SEND Careers and Employment Awards for his ‘going for it' attitude as he has now transitioned out of education (before his projected time) to take up part-time employment with Micronclean. This has been a fantastic piece of work, and we are eternally grateful for the opportunity that the company has given him.”

As Leo continues to grow and develop in his role, his journey serves as an inspiration to many. It highlights the importance of work placements and the significant impact they can have on a student's career path.

Linked to this, Micronclean strives to achieve its SKIEs values every day. Leo is a shining example of these values.
