First Annual Microngreen Report: Turning Words into Results
18.11.2024Micronclean is proud to announce the publication of its first annual Microngreen Report, which highlights its progress towards becoming "the most sustainable specialist textile and cleanroom consumable business on the planet."
The first annual Microngreen Report builds on the Microngreen Strategy document published last year. This report details our progress in relation to the three pillars of our strategy:
- We will work to protect our climate by reducing our carbon emissions.
- We will work to adopt a circular economy for all our products and their packaging.
- We will work with our people and communities.
Some of the most significant highlights from the annual report include:
- Protect our climate: We achieved a 20% reduction in direct carbon emissions by ensuring that all electricity used at our sites now comes from REGO-certified renewable sources. Additionally, we installed solar panels on the roof of our Louth facility, which now generates 20% of the electricity used on-site.
- Circular economy: By combining two separate labels into a single wipe closure, we reduced our annual plastic consumption by 200 kg. Also, by switching from white-branded boxes to eco-friendly brown boxes made with recycled fibre content, we reduced our virgin cardboard use by 32%.
- People and community: Our Women's Network championed and implemented significant improvements in Micronclean's parental leave and pay policies. We also successfully delivered our latest “Summer School” and year-long student placements, offering outstanding work-based experiences for young people in our communities.
Sophie Harris, QSHE Associate Director at Micronclean, commented, “We made impressive progress in 2023 on our journey, turning the ambition and vision of our Microngreen Strategy into tangible outcomes and results. This is not just a management initiative; we have had tremendous support from all members of staff throughout the company on various projects, many of which will begin delivering results in 2024.”
She added, “However, this is only the beginning of our journey. We look forward to delivering many more projects in the years to come, including our new Cleanroom Laundry at our Skegness Campus, which will be the first operationally carbon-neutral cleanroom laundry in the world.”
