Micronclean Summer Schools: Emily and Jake
Blog24.08.2022Over the summer of 2022, Micronclean has employed 6 students studying from GCSE to Undergraduate level as part of its first summer school initiative.
Each of the selected students was given a project that was related to the subjects they are studying and not only helped Micronclean but allowed the student to develop their skills and knowledge in the workplace.
We think that our first summer school has been a real success and has brought benefits to both the business and the students themselves. However, it is perhaps easier to judge this from the words of the student themselves.
Jake Tomlinson - In House Testing Laboratory - Masters Chemistry Degree Student, University of Lincoln
Emily Barker - In House Testing Laboratory - Undergraduate Bioengineering Degree Student, University of Sheffield
The main part of our placement was supporting the Micronclean In House Testing Laboratory with routine testing, such as particulate testing on garments and goggles laundered at the Roman Bank site, environmental monitoring in our cleanrooms and bioburden testing on our water systems and liquid products. Alongside this, we also assisted with ad-hoc testing, such as developing and performing standard test methods for syringe testing for MicronDevices. Finally, we also were involved with equipment validations.
During our time in the testing laboratory we were fully supported by Caitlin Lowes, Laboratory Lead at Micronclean.
This experience has helped us gain a much better insight into the day-to-day activities of a laboratory and allowed us to see potential day to day practical applications of our university degrees.
"As a result of feedback from the students, the departments and staff involved we hope to hold another summer school next year." - Robert Parker, Micronclean MD
